Our client, a scalp health industry leader, needed a way to educate stakeholders and influencers on what actually causes dandruff. But how do you teach people complex science in a memorable way?

Rather than presenting the science, we made them part of it. We built a Mixed Reality experience that placed users directly onto a human scalp at microscopic scale, close enough to observe and interact with the microbiome living there.

As researchers on a discovery mission, users explored the environment alongside SARA, their Scalp Analysis Research Assistant, to identify the microbe responsible for causing dandruff. The science revealed itself through what they found, not what they were told.

Users picked up and analysed different microbes, then travelled down a hair follicle to investigate the disruption beneath the surface. Inside, they experienced skin cells accelerating into overdrive. Surfacing again, users analysed the dandruff flakes and redness left behind. Each stage of the experience built the picture of how dandruff is created and why a solution is needed.

Mixed reality was the perfect blend for an audience largely unfamiliar with XR. It kept users grounded while placing them somewhere unimaginable.
